When you have sinned and recognized the seriousness of your mistakes, your most crucial challenge will be to believe that you can change, that there can be a different you. To disbelieve that is clearly a Satanic device designed to discourage and defeat you. Repentance is not a foreboding word. It is, following faith, the most encouraging word in the Christian vocabulary. You can change! You can be anything you want to be in righteousness.
If there is one lament I cannot abide, it is the poor, pitiful, withered cry, “Well, that’s just the way I am.” If you want to talk about discouraging attitudes, that is one that discourages me. Please spare me your speeches about “That’s just the way I am.” I’ve heard that from too many people who wanted to sin and call it psychology. And I use the word sin to cover a vast range of habits which bring discouragement and doubt and despair.
You can change anything you want to change and you can do it very fast. It is another Satanic falsehood to believe that it takes years and years and eons of eternity to repent. It takes exactly as long to repent as it takes you to say “I’ll change”—and mean it. Of course there will be problems to work out and restitutions to make. You may well spend—indeed, you had better spend—the rest of your life proving your repentance by its permanence. But change, growth, renewal, and repentance can come for you as instantaneously as it did for Alma and the Sons of Mosiah.

Change is hard but it can happen.
Lets break down why people change and if change can be permanent or if people can go back to who they were before...
Reasons why people change:
A Desire to Come Closer to God
“Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you.” —D&C 88:63
Change often happens when we feel inside that we need to do things different, when we feel that everything we've done has taken us to a place where we are stuck, then we can feel the Spirit whisper to us that there is more for you, That God has a highter calling and a higher path for you and you can feel that that is true.
Feeling the Weight of Sin
Sometimes the weight of our sins make the guilt feelings pile on top of each other, so we grow tired of living in guilt but mainly we grow tired of the spiritual emptiness that we feel on a daily. When we make those changes and are consistent we start feeling that weight disappear, Forgiveness makes us feel lighter and this feeling also motivates us to continue on our path to complete change
The Influence of the Holy Ghost
After we've been baptized, the Spirit will make us feel we need to get on the right path, it will make us feel prompting about change, it will nudge us to feel that we need to get back on the path to change.
A Personal Crisis or Wake-Up Call
Sometimes the Lord allows painful experiences or events in our lives, Loss, addictions even heartbreak that will shake us awake These moments are like a crossroad where we have to choose and decide what is important to us in life and if we want to take that same path that has caused us pain and sorrow or a path that will lead us to happiness, strength and love
Love
Love Mainly to God first can be the greatest motivator for change, but also Love for a loved one, restoring and repairing the hurt that you have caused, wanting to make up for what you have done to see the person you've hurt be happy and feel loved once again.
Time
Once we've realized that we need to change, we also realize all the precious time that we have wasted and dont want to waste any more time, we want to double our pace and make change permanent so that we can start making up for time that was lost.
We Envision a Better Future
Hope sparks change. When someone catches a glimpse of what their life could be, they begin moving in that direction. When we have examples of people that we admire and want to emulate, We envision our life as good or better than those people.

While change often takes time, spiritual breakthroughs can happen quickly when the heart is open and the will is aligned with God
In the Book of Mormon Alma the younger, one who persecuted the church, changed almost instanty..His transformation was radical, fast and permanent because his heart was truly Broken and open
“I was in the darkest abyss; but now I behold the marvelous light of God.”
—Alma 26:16
Remember, no matter how far you've fallen or how long you've been stuck, you are never beyond the reach of God's love or the power of His grace.
Change is hard—but it’s holy. It begins the moment you decide that where you've been is not where you want to stay. When you surrender your pride, open your heart, and invite the Savior in, He can transform you in an instant—just like He did with Alma, Paul, and so many others who once walked in darkness.
Yes, some change takes time. Habits may take weeks or months to rebuild. But the decision to change—the spiritual turning point—can happen in a single moment of honesty and humility.
And when your desire to draw closer to God is real, when your heart aches to heal what you've broken and to become who you were always meant to be—God meets you there. Instantly. Powerfully. Lovingly.
“Ye shall be changed—even in the twinkling of an eye—from mortality to immortality.”

That’s not just about resurrection. That’s about spiritual rebirth. A new heart. A new mind. A new direction.
You can become someone new.
You can repair what was broken.
You can restore what was lost.
Not because of your willpower alone, but because the power of Jesus Christ is real—and He can make you more than you ever thought possible.
So today, choose change.
Choose light.
Choose love.
Choose Christ.
And when you do, watch how fast Heaven moves to meet you.

Desglosemos por qué las personas cambian y si el cambio puede ser permanente o si alguien puede volver a ser quien era antes...
Razones por las que las personas cambian:
Un Deseo de Acercarse a Dios
“Acercaos a mí y yo me acercaré a vosotros.”
—DyC 88:63
El cambio a menudo ocurre cuando sentimos dentro de nosotros que necesitamos hacer las cosas de manera diferente, cuando sentimos que todo lo que hemos hecho nos ha llevado a un lugar en el que estamos estancados. Entonces, podemos sentir al Espíritu susurrarnos que hay algo más para nosotros, que Dios tiene un llamado y un camino más alto, y sentimos que eso es verdad.
Sentir el Peso del Pecado
A veces el peso de nuestros pecados hace que los sentimientos de culpa se acumulen, y nos cansamos de vivir con esa carga. Pero más aún, nos cansamos del vacío espiritual que sentimos a diario. Cuando comenzamos a hacer esos cambios y somos constantes, empezamos a sentir que ese peso desaparece. El perdón nos hace sentir más ligeros, y ese sentimiento también nos motiva a continuar por el camino del cambio completo.
La Influencia del Espíritu Santo
Después de ser bautizados, el Espíritu nos hace sentir que necesitamos estar en el camino correcto. Nos da impresiones sobre el cambio, nos empuja a volver al camino de la rectitud.
Una Crisis Personal o una Sacudida Espiritual
A veces el Señor permite experiencias dolorosas en nuestra vida —pérdidas, adicciones, incluso el desamor— que nos sacuden y nos despiertan. Esos momentos son como una encrucijada donde debemos decidir qué es lo más importante para nosotros y si queremos seguir por el mismo camino que nos ha causado tanto dolor, o tomar un camino que nos lleve a la felicidad, la fortaleza y el amor.
El Amor
El amor —principalmente el amor a Dios— puede ser el mayor motivador para cambiar. Pero también el amor por un ser querido, restaurar y reparar el daño que hemos causado, querer enmendar lo que hicimos para ver feliz y amada nuevamente a la persona que herimos.
El Tiempo
Cuando nos damos cuenta de que necesitamos cambiar, también nos damos cuenta del valioso tiempo que hemos desperdiciado y ya no queremos perder más. Queremos acelerar el paso y hacer que el cambio sea permanente para empezar a recuperar el tiempo perdido.
Visualizamos un Futuro Mejor
La esperanza impulsa el cambio. Cuando alguien vislumbra lo que su vida podría ser, comienza a avanzar en esa dirección. Cuando tenemos ejemplos de personas que admiramos y queremos imitar, visualizamos nuestra vida igual o mejor que la de ellos.
El Cambio Puede Ser Instantáneo
Aunque el cambio suele tomar tiempo, los avances espirituales pueden ocurrir rápidamente cuando el corazón está abierto y la voluntad está alineada con Dios.
En el Libro de Mormón, Alma el joven —quien perseguía a la Iglesia— cambió casi instantáneamente. Su transformación fue radical, rápida y permanente porque su corazón estaba verdaderamente quebrantado y abierto.
“Yo me hallaba en el más oscuro abismo; mas ahora contemplo la maravillosa luz de Dios.”
—Alma 26:16
Recuerda: no importa cuán bajo hayas caído o cuánto tiempo hayas estado estancado, nunca estás fuera del alcance del amor de Dios ni del poder de Su gracia.
El cambio es difícil, pero es sagrado. Comienza en el momento en que decides que no quieres quedarte donde estás. Cuando entregas tu orgullo, abres tu corazón e invitas al Salvador a entrar, Él puede transformarte en un instante —así como lo hizo con Alma, con Pablo y con tantos otros que caminaron en tinieblas.
Sí, algunos cambios toman tiempo. Los hábitos pueden tardar semanas o meses en reconstruirse. Pero la decisión de cambiar —ese punto de inflexión espiritual— puede ocurrir en un solo momento de honestidad y humildad.
Y cuando tu deseo de acercarte a Dios es genuino, cuando tu corazón anhela sanar lo que has roto y convertirte en quien siempre debiste ser —Dios te encuentra ahí. Instantáneamente. Con poder. Con amor.
“Seréis transformados —aun en un abrir y cerrar de ojos— de este estado mortal a un estado inmortal.”
—Mosíah 27:25
Eso no solo se trata de la resurrección. Se trata del renacimiento espiritual. Un nuevo corazón. Una nueva mente. Una nueva dirección.
Puedes convertirte en alguien nuevo.
Puedes reparar lo que fue roto.
Puedes restaurar lo que se perdió.
No por tu fuerza de voluntad solamente, sino porque el poder de Jesucristo es real —y Él puede hacer de ti algo mucho más grande de lo que jamás imaginaste.
Así que hoy, elige cambiar.
Elige la luz.
Elige el amor.
Elige a Cristo.
Y cuando lo hagas, observa qué tan rápido el cielo se mueve para encontrarse contigo.
